Waldman's Gicleés
The digital simulation below stands for the original oil painting ''McSorley's''
( 20'' X 30''oil on canvas) has been sold. I have also sold two 15''
X 20'' Gicleés , so there are ten more of the half-size Gicleés that
are available.
 Gicleés
are ink jet digital color prints on canvas.
They employ museum quality archival ink . Editions are limited to a
maximum of 12 of any painting. Gicleés are available for a fraction
of the of the price of the original oil painting but look just like
them.
The term Gicleé refers to a particular reproduction process.
Incidentally, Gicleé is pronounced ''ZHEE-CLAY'' and the word
''Gicleé'' is French for ''spray'' which is the way ink is placed on
the canvas by the digital printer. The printer is an ''Iris'' (a
$250,00 digital printer) and the inks used are special archival inks
that last for up to 100 years. To produce a Gicleé I make a color
copy of the original using digital photography or regular
photographic film (the film image then has to be ''scanned'' into a
digital computer format that the Iris requires).
Enhanced Gicleés
I then manipulate the digital image of the photo to match the
original oil and fit it on the target canvas. The Iris printer is
then used to spray color on canvas from my digital file.
I additionally hand texture and enhance the resulting canvas with
textured strokes, oil color touches and a final varnish
to enhance the Gicleé's fidelity to the original oils. |
