Fallen Hero Portrait by Barry Waldman Posthumous portrait of Sgt. Michael Maltz, Pararescue hero killed in Afghanistan
I had a friend of my son who hung around our house when they were in their teens. Mike Maltz (the friend) was killed in Afghanistan on a rescue mission, Mike was in a helicopter pararescue team. I painted his portrait (at no cost to Mike's family) and my son and the two other surviving friends flew together to present the portrait to Mike’s widow from three states to Mike's family's home in Oregon. Below is my portrait hanging in his widow and two boys home in Oregon. I have received a request from another pararescue vet who had studied under Mike and then served with him. Another buddy was later killed and the second buddy wants me to paint #3 for his family.
